Mega winter wardrobe savings

August is a great month for making big savings on men’s winter clothing. My boyfriend and I spent a great afternoon at Albany Mega Centre setting up our wardrobes for next winter and beyond. Shoes, coats, pants, sweatshirts and so much more – everything we wanted was here, and on sale.

My boyfriend of one year, Josh, has a few colourful words he uses to tell our friends about how tight I am with money. While I laugh it off when he says it, I’m also a bit annoyed by it. I work hard for my money, so why shouldn’t I look to be careful with how I spend it? Every year in February and August, I go to the end-of-season sales and stock up for next year. With the big clearance sales, many of the essentials of a fashionable wardrobe are often discounted by 50% or more.

With winter officially ending in a couple of weeks, most stores are introducing their Spring/Summer collections and discounting their winter range. “August is the perfect time to buy stuff for next winter,” I tell Josh, who, despite mocking me, decides he’ll come along to Albany Mega Centre to see what’s on sale.

We park at the top of the Centre and start at North Beach. This is a very trendy streetwear place with stuff that both Josh and I like to wear at the weekend and for going out. I find a great pair of jeans and try them on. “They look great,” Josh says, and tries on the same pair. He decides not to buy them. “I’ll just wear yours.” he says. “And you call me tight with money!” I snap back at him. The truth is, I really don’t mind. We are there for over an hour and I also buy a sweater, a work shirt, some undies and a black woollen jacket. Josh buys a pair of boots, a belt and a sweatshirt. Between us, we’ve saved well over $200.

We load the car up and then walk to EziBuy. I like this place. I always get the sense that they are really focused on delivering quality at good value prices. I buy a chocolate brown pair of cargo pants and put them together with a rich green merino cardigan. I also found a bathrobe I like, which is heavily discounted. In fact, it’s so cheap I buy two bathrobes. Josh sees this as an introduction to comment on how thrifty I am. I’m not sure he realises that it’s to stop him stealing mine. Josh also buys a few bits and pieces including a hoodie, a pair of loafers and a woollen scarf. We probably saved over $100 here.

We put this latest haul in the car and walk down to Hallenstein Brothers. We both love this store and generally spend our weekends hanging around in their shorts, tees and track pants. They’ve got a massive sale on, which I’m very excited about. I’m sure Josh is too, not that he says so. They have a great range of hooded sweats which are discounted if you buy two. Josh picks a faded blue one and I go for a faded pink one. I like them both and will no doubt wear both at different times. We both stock up on assorted colours of t-shirts, exercise shorts and on sweat pants.

As we’re walking back to the car I tell Josh that I’ve helped him save at least $100 and that he should take me out for a fancy meal. Josh grabs my hand and leads me to the nearby Burger King. “The flame-grilled WHOPPERS® are on me,” he says. It’s not quite what I had in mind, but I won’t say no if he’s spending money on me. “Thanks Albany Mega Centre for a great men’s winter wardrobe, at excellent prices, and for making it a fun day out shopping with Josh.”
