Feeling at home

It’s always been a dream of mine to own my own house. It’s finally happened and now it's time to turn it into a home. A trip to Albany Mega Centre sees us find all the homewares we need to feel at home.

Stacey and I had both been flatting for a while before we moved in together and each of us had furniture and homewares we’d bought and inherited along the way. It took us a long time to save for, and find, our new first home together, so there was no way that any of that motley collection was coming with us. We needed pretty much everything and we were going to enjoy finding it together.

We start at Farmers Home at the Albany Mega Centre. I’ve known this brand all my life and feel confident we’ll get good quality at reasonable prices. Stace and I recently bought our dinning and lounge furniture from here so we know they have a good range of stylish homewares. We start looking for dinnerware. We need a good hard-wearing everyday set that won’t embarrass us when we have friends round for dinner. The Amy Piper collection in white is perfect for this. We stumble on the Haven collection of tumblers and wine glasses and love their simple elegant lines. Our dinner table needs more colour though and the Haven placemats in a beautiful green leaf motif are perfect for us. We finish up with a set of Alex Liddy cutlery, again affordable enough for everyday use but good looking enough for guests.

We move down to Briscoes and sort out what we need for the laundry and bathrooms. Baskets, scales, hampers, soap dispensers and a whole lot more. From there we go to Bed, Bath and Beyond. We find two sets of Design Republique fine cotton bamboo sheets, one in white and one in crème. And we purchase two duvet sets. The first a Niko & Co floral pattern in pink and white. We are both girly girls and love its soft and prettiness. Our second duvet, the A la Mode Fleur, in silver and black has a little more elegant and charm.

Last stop is Adairs for one or two special items from their beautiful range of really unique homewares. I spot an amazing Mercer + Reid mirror and Stace finds a floral wall print. We take them both for the bedroom.

Back home, we set up our new purchases. It’s funny how a few good homeware buys can transform a space and make it feel warmer and personal. Thanks to Albany Mega Centre, Stace and I both feel very much at home in our new place.
