A new winter wardrobe

A new winter wardrobe

Winter is definitely upon us. It was only a month ago when we were taking walks in the evening and eating outside. Over the last few weeks the temperature has really dropped, a sure sign that it’s time for a new wardrobe. As always, Albany Mega Centre is my chosen destination for the best range of winter women’s wear.

I rung my oldest friend, Anksha, and asked her to come shopping with me. We’ve known each other since school and she’s someone I trust to be honest about how something looks. Besides, she loves shopping as much as I do and wears about the same size in most things. No doubt she’ll buy some things that I can ‘borrow.’ I suspect that’s the same reason she accepted my invitation to come shopping.

When Saturday arrived, we began the girl’s shopping adventures at Cotton On with lots of giggles and excitement. This is one of my favourite stores. The quality is excellent and the prices even better. Summer and winter, I always kick off my new season wardrobe here as it offers me all the essentials, in the latest styles and colours.

Before I have a chance to work out where everything is, Anksha has already gathered a dozen outfits for me to try on. A number of dresses in colours from hot pink through to charcoal grey: skirts, pants and blouses - mostly in her favourite colours. I add a few outfits to the pile including a couple of tops and a long cardigan that I could wear to work, or for a night out. After trying on over 20 different outfits, accompanied by Anksha's continual commentary, I chose a dress, a cardigan and two dressy tops.

I finish up by looking at their branded cotton tees. Every season I buy a number of these. They go with everything which means they can be worn around the house, to work, to the movies and most other occassions.

With more chatter, we move to the next store, EziBuy. It’s another one of those stores that have nailed the balance between quality and price. I like wearing comfortable slouchy clothes around the house and this place has a great collection of fleecy tops and sweatpants. I chose a selection of the latest autumnal colours and I also find a pair of fun fleecy pyjamas which will be great on those cold nights. Anksha doesn’t approve of anything made of flannel and heads off to look at outfits for herself.

The last stop is North Beach, just a few shops down. The clothes here are very modern and have a strong ‘street’ vibe that might be just a little too young for me. I’m looking for a warm coat and they have a nice selection. I’m about to choose a very elegant merino full-length option when Anksha comes over with a long tan corduroy jacket with a sheepskin collar. It’s got an eighties vibe that reminds of something I had back in my university days. Anksha insists I try it on - it looks fantastic and it makes me feel good. I’m definitely buying it and Anksha’s already talking about borrowing it!

We end the trip by both buying a great pair of jeans, an essential in every wardrobe regardless of the season.

It’s been an excellent day of shopping at Albany Mega Centre. Anksha and I enjoy a quick bite at Burger King, as we recap on our purchases. As expected she bought way more than I had. Despite that, I have a wardrobe for whatever winter brings. Anksha and I head home to try on our new purchases, over a few wines and lots of laughs.
